Fly and Zhulka

Fly and Zhulka. Friendship between a cat and a dog

Fly and Zhulka. Friendship between a cat and a dogOn a May morning, when I went out on the porch, I found a shoebox with a little fluffy ball inside. I remembered that our neighbor’s cat had given birth to kittens, so they must have decided to give us one as well. What could I say? I didn’t want to argue with our neighbors. So, we had to take the box with the little stray. The kitten was so small that we gave her the name Fly.

As Fly grew up, she turned into such a beauty — slim and graceful, with shiny fur. At that time, we had a dog named Zhulka. And our dog fell in love with Fly, he adored her.

My husband and I were going to the garden, and Fly and Zhulka were running next to us. I put a chair on the path so that I could sit down and rest if I got tired. And Fly was quick to jump onto the chair and curl up in a ball. And Zhulka sat next to her, like a faithful dog. I chased them away, and they ran off for a moment.

Then the corn rustled, and our beauty Fly came running, and Zhulka ran to meet her and started kissing her — licked her muzzle, and the cat just stood there and didn’t run away. Then they walked together to the chair that I had freed up, settled on it, and fell asleep. We watched their love and were amazed: how could a cat and a dog love each other?

One day it started raining heavily, and we ran back to the house with our pets following us. I looked out the window: Zhulka was lying next to his kennel, getting soaked in the rain. What was going on? Why wasn’t he hiding in his kennel? Taking an umbrella, I went to see what was going on. I looked into the kennel, and there was Fly. Zhulka had let his beloved into his kennel and was guarding her.

That’s the kind of otherworldly love between a cat and a dog.
