Any deviation from the normal body temperature is a wake-up call. That is why it is very important to be able to measure your cat’s temperature.

Cat’s body temperature is measured rectally (i.e. by inserting the tip of the thermometer into the rectum). To do this it is best to use an electronic thermometer. When selecting an electronic thermometer make sure its tip is soft, to avoid hurting your pet.

The normal body temperature for cats — about 38.5 C.

How to measure your cat’s temperature.

  • Make sure that you have reset the thermometer.
  • Lubricate the tip of the thermometer with a baby cream (or any other acceptable lubricant).
  • Carefully insert the tip, turning slightly, in the middle of the cat’s anus. You must insert it deep enough so that the entire tip of the thermometer was inside.
  • Hold the thermometer in for 30-60 seconds. (Do not let go of the thermometer for the duration of the procedure.)
  • Carefully remove the thermometer and wipe it with a piece of cotton wool. Look at the measurement and record the data, specifying the time and date of measurement.
